Celebrate Fresh Tomato Day 2023

Fresh Tomato Day, celebrated on April 6, is a day to appreciate the beauty and versatility of fresh tomatoes.

These vibrant fruits, grown in temperate and tropical regions, are a significant source of umami flavor, whether enjoyed raw or cooked. At Perfection Two Wells, our state-of-the-art sustainable glasshouse facility in South Australia, located less than an hour north of Adelaide, we are committed to enhancing the quality of tomatoes through continuous innovation.

Spanning 43 hectares, the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere, our facility includes dedicated trial crop houses, one of which is equipped with advanced lighting to optimise growing conditions and explore new and improved tomato varieties.

We treat our tomato plants with care like you care for a baby, in our CEA (Controlled Environment Agriculture) like Two Wells, we respect nature, and just by observation, a plant will always ‘tell you what it needs.’

That’s the beauty of growing in a glasshouse; the care factor is paramount. Each day we measure the temperature, humidity, light, and other environmental factors to ensure a consistent growing environment that aids in the techniques to produce the best quality tomatoes all year round.

Consistent quality and flavour

Our controlled growing environment ensures that plants are not subjected to unpredictable outside weather patterns, pests, or diseases that can affect the quality of the fruit. It allows the plants to receive optimal conditions for growth and development, resulting in high-quality, delicious tomatoes that our consumers rely on.

Improved food safety and the environment

In our CEA, our environment is kept clean and free from pests and diseases, reducing the need for pesticides and other chemicals and the risk of contamination by harmful pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella. By reducing the need for pesticides and fertilisers, we can control water and energy, which regulates the environment, allowing the tomatoes a longer shelf life as they are not exposed to extreme temperatures that can cause them to spoil quickly.

A different variety for every taste, that's also good for you

Our 43 hectare glasshouse means we can produce our full range of Perfection Tomatoes. From the Premium Truss Tomatoes to the Bello Rosso® baby roma tomato to the beautiful Kumato® Tomatoes, they are a great source of Vitamin C, potassium, folate and vitamin K – great for snacking on the go or adding more colour and variety to your dishes. Check out the delicious recipes here.

In the CEA we are able to produce a sustainable product that all our consumers love.
